Meet Leonard - one of the newest additions to the Centennial, staff pet family!  He is a two year old Collie cross that Jennifer adopted from the OSPCA.  He is a rescue from Northern, Ontario and is settling in nicely to the relaxing Muskoka lifestyle!

Picture #1: “Rowena” was netted and found to be in poor condition. She was taken back to the rehabilitation centre where she was placed  in a fresh water bath for 48 hours to kill any parasites and barnacles that were on her shell. She received subcutaneous fluids daily as well as tube feedings. We was weighed twice daily to ensure that she was receiving the proper amount of nutrients. 

​Picture #2: Maryke and Tammy on one of the beach days. They were boated out to an area (along with the Research Assistants) and would be there for a majority of the day. 

​Picture #3: Mangrove seeds thrive in mud! One of the tasks was collecting mud in wheelbarrows to bring to the nursery to plant the seeds. Definitely not a clean job!

​Picture #4: Maryke and Tammy in the mangrove nursery. The nursery had over 3000 mangroves, all at different stages of growth. They all needed to be shifted and rotated weekly so they didn’t root in the nursery. At the back, some of the taller mangroves are ready to be moved and planted.

​Picture #5 & 6: A Hawksbill sea turtle. She was measured, weighed, tagged and released. This entire process happens in less than 10 minutes as it is important to have her out of her environment for the least amount of time possible. 

Picture #7: Kiera (a Research Assistant on the left) and Tammy get ready to start Rowena’s treatment. It was important that gloves were always worn when handling the turtles as certain diseases can be transmitted. Rowena's head was always covered when out of the water to reduce any struggle.
