A Heartfelt Farewell from Dr. Mary DeCaire

Dr. Mary DeCaire

Veterinary medicine has been my life and love for 50 years, and now it is time to retire. I have wonderful memories of the 45 years I spent at Centennial Animal Hospital and Gravenhurst Veterinary Services. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made this journey so worthwhile.

I thank the friendly people of Muskoka who have been clients, friends and neighbours over the years.

I am deeply grateful to my business partner, associate and friend, Dr. Claire Duder. You are one of the most gifted veterinarians I have ever met. Without you, Centennial would never have grown as it has.

To my wonderful work family over the years - the technicians, client services team, practice managers, veterinarians, groomers and assistants who were and are the heart and soul of the practice - thank you. You taught me so much about veterinary medicine and about life. I treasure the years we spent together.

Thank you to all the clients who entrusted me with the care of your beloved pets, and in early years, your farm animals as well. Leon Bernard, a French physician, said "Medicine should be practiced as a form of friendship": I have tried very hard to follow his advice.

The biggest thank you must go to the pets I have met and cared for over the years. You have taught me tolerance, humility, loyalty, forgiveness, and how to love unconditionally. You helped me learn how to live in the moment. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of having been part of your lives.

Sincerely,
Mary DeCaire DVM
